Jackie Hayes was/is a great coach, no doubt. However, i'm sure he has a backup already groomed. They'll keep the job in the Dillon pipeline.

Legendary high school football coach is putting up the headsets

Dillon won four consecutive state championships from 2014-2017 and the Wildcats never missed the post-season during Hayes' tenure which began in 1992. He took over a program that went 1-21 in the previous two seasons and in his first season, the Wildcats went 8-4. Two years later, they were playing for the 4A state championship.

Legendary SC football coach Jackie Hayes stepping down at Dillon

Hayes told The State on Tuesday that he thought about stepping down before the season but didn’t want to do that during the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hayes, a former player at Dillon, said he won’t be involved in the search for his replacement but said there are a lot of people on his staff who have credentials to be head coach.

“Over 29 years, I thought we kept getting better and getting better resources,” Hayes said. “We always had great community support, support from the administration. I had some outstanding coaches and players, too. When you put that all together, it is a road map for success.”
