If history repeats itself, and the unexpected always happens, how incapable must Man be of learning from experience.

If I were coach, I would keep Neal. I hear young McMahon, Miller and the coach from NC are knowledgeable but have ZERO connection with the players. Maybe Wright, dont know much about him. The young coach, Childress is liked. Other than that, all are expendable. Sorrow is a good coach too I hear.

So what you're saying when it comes to McMahon's son...the apple didn't fall far from tree? Probably Mac's biggest downside as a coach is his inability to communicate/reach his players. One of the most out of touch head coaches in the upstate. Lack of control and understanding = lack of discipline and respect.viking4life wrote:If I were coach, I would keep Neal. McMahon should probably retire. If he doesn't, the school district should fire him. Both of those are big IFs though...
Re: Emerald Vikings
Neal, not Doolittle was the source of success over many years at 96. Neal only won 3 games at 96 as head coach but he played the hardest schedule in the state and never lost by more than a TD, and you are completely right; his tenure at 96 was a nightmare due to a booster club kid and his parents. The Super at 96 was connected to the booster club and the super told Neal who to play or else. Neal didn't play everyone he was told by the booster club and super to play and it cost him his job. 96 hasn't been anything since, bottom feeders. Neal will turn Emerald around very quickly, he is the man for this job. If Emerald passes over on him they are making a major mistake.viking4life wrote:Ok. Made me do some research. NO FLY you are Wrong. He was at NInety Six as head coach one year. His team was 3-8. Every game lost by a TD or less. Surrounded by controversy over a Booster Club big wheel's son not playing QB. At McCormick, a bad program until he got there, he took the team to the state championship in his 2nd year after a second round playoff run his first year. At Aiken. his teams earned more wins each year there and were predicted to win the region his fourth year, according to my friend. Injuries killed that bid when all but one starting OL and two LBs were injured. Still made the playoffs. He has taken over struggling programs and they progressively got better each year. Emerald is not that far away. He would be a solid choice. IMO.
And.. He won a state championship in private school.

Damefan wrote:Just some food for thought on Brian Neal. He was well liked at Aiken but in four years with the Hornets, they were 12 and 30 with his best season being in 2015 when they won six ballgames. In 2016 his final year they were 3-10.
Brian Neal was also the head coach at Ninety Six High School – his alma mater – in 2007 (don't know how long he was Head Coach) and was part of the coaching staff for 15 years. Overall, he had a 17-20 win-loss record according to the Aiken Standard. At McCormick he went 3-9 his first season and he guided the Chiefs to the Division II, Class A state championship game with a 11-3 record but left to go to Aiken.
I understand Brian is a very good defensive coach and excellent with the players, but his record does not show that he can lead a program. Like so many coaches I have known some are not meant to be #1's. They are great #2's and need to realize that. Based on three HC jobs I think Brian is a great #2!!

Aiken is a graveyard for coaches. Neal should have never taken that job.
Re: Emerald Vikings
Why is Aiken such a graveyard? I haven't seen them often, but apparent when I have that they have talent. They have been through quite a few coaches down there. What is the issue that keeps them from being competitive?

I wouldn't expect to hear anything on this until at least December.
Is Sorrow still coaching basketball over there? I thought he'd be retired by now. This has got to be the last year for both him and McMahon.

Re: Emerald Vikings
Yes, Sorrow is still the basketball coach. The basketball team has also dropped off quite a bit over the past few years. They haven't been to the playoffs the last two seasons. No Fly Zone wrote:I wouldn't expect to hear anything on this until at least December.
