Beaufort is 6-1, not 5-0. And IF you must know, I DID NOT have Beaufort ranked in my top 10 this week. That said, I DO have all of the undefeated teams in the state ranked ahead of Burnz...........because UNTIL they lose a game, there is no way of telling how good they are. They have been good enough to beat every team on their schedule, while Burnz has not...

I know Beaufort has a loss which is why I mentioned the 41 point blowout to Goose Creek. My point was "when" Beaufort was undefeated at 5-0 you would have had them ranked in the top ten poll ahead of Byrnes based on your ranking system.

How about this, instead of attacking me for my opinions...
Don't you think the word "attacking" is a bit of an overstatement?

Mine was not ment as a attack as much as it was a strong statement.

You see what I mean about different ideas on what a TopTen vote actually means? We already see differing opinions on the vote and how it is done and what it represents.

I think a top ten should be based on all factors... Record, schedule and the factors like injuries to key players. Yes it's true to some degree that you only can play the games on the schedule but other than five games required for region play or four or seven in a few regions, you can control some of the games. Budgets, rivalries, and politics are also a factor...

But I have eyes and a brain so I can factor results from other games, scores, and come up with a poll that I feel reasonably represents the season so far.

While I don't agree that simply being undefeated should get you to the top of the poll, I understand the reasoning and respect his right to feel that way. I do have a question to pose:

Wonder if Bluffton had been 6-0 with their schedule if you have felt the same?

Reb,

Here is what I think should be used in the poll

Strength of schedule
Pts for and against
Region strength

Rivalry should be considered last, IMO, as well as money. Lets face it, there aren't too many teams who have the deep pockets that Byrnes, Dorman and the list goes on that have DEEP pockets. Hell, we had raise money for new home jerseys this yr and hope to get enough this yr for away jerseys and helmets next yr. We don't have money laying around or dads fighting over who's gonna write the check this week like some high schools in this state.

Yes, with the caveat that due to schedule to date, they would be the lowest ranked team of the undefeateds. If each and every team played the exact same opposition, then the solution is simple. But when they don't, and injuries, missed games, weather conditions, and home fields are taken into consideration, the eye test becomes blurred. Again, just MY opinion.

I'm completely different when it comes to what my vote means. Doesn't make my vote better or worse than anyone else's, it's just what I do. Like he said, tell us how you think it should be....

My vote would be more along the lines of this:

If they played this week, #1 would be favored against the other nine on a neutral field. I expect that for the most part (we all know there are upsets every week) the Top Ten would be favored over the other 42 teams in AAAA. I try to look at this year's results to date, how they did against common opponents (for example: Gaffney beat Dorman, and Spartanburg lost to Dorman) but that is only about 10% of my vote. That doesn't mean that Gaffney will be ranked over Spartanburg all by itself. That was only one game! What I usually do, is go down the list that I laughingly referred to as the BCS of AAAA and I look at each win and loss.... and sometimes a loss is worth more than a win when it comes to rankings. For example: I would not have dropped Northwestern or Byrnes based on the results of their game. It went to Overtime and one play could have provided us with a totally different outcome. While a win over a winless AAAA Division One team is not going to move anyone UP in my rankings. It may hold them steady, but regardless 21-0 or 82-0, it just don't matter to me.

I guess that is the spreadsheet guy's version of how I vote like I do.....

My top ten list is based on my personal opinion of the best teams as they are right now. Head to head matchups, strength of schedule, common opponents, stats, opinions from those who are worth listening to......all get in the mix.

My list, and $1 will buy you a drink at the vending machine :-)
