The Republican Party

Love the Rand Paul clip at the end. That's almost exactly my experience on social media the last 6 months when I ask certain questions.

So this was interesting...

Had a conversation with BYRNES#1 about socialism. Of course, it wasn't much a conversation because he had to admit he doesn't actually know what socialism or communism or Marxism is. His excuse? "I don't have to know how a stove eye works to know it's hot and to stay away from it."

I'm still trying to understand how you can avoid something when you give yourself a license to be ignorant about it and just assign it to anything else you want. I could call my refrigerator a hot stove and refuse to touch it. Doesn't make any sense to me.

Wow, Mr. Van Der Veen must have been seriously triggered.

Image

"Trump lawyer destroys CBS news anchor."

More like Trump lawyer destroys himself. I mean look at the picture of his face in the interview. Does anyone trust a dude with a face like that?

Even at the end when she says they can "continue to have this conversation" and he replies "I don't need to." and then amazingly continues to speak over her and completely misrepresents her question after accusing her of misrepresenting what he said in the trial about whether Jan 6th was an insurrection or not.

Read this next quote in bold from the video twice. I'm not misrepresenting anything said...

Exactly what the interviewer said: "To be clear to our viewers, what you're talking about now is a check mark that's a verification on twitter that did not exist on that particular tweet, a 2020 that should have actually read 2021, and the selective editing of the tapes (interrupted)....

What Mr. Van Der Veen claimed she said: “isn't it okay for them to cheat? It's just a little bit. To be fair, it was only a check on the twitter!”

And then Van Der Veen wraps that thought up with this pricelessly stupid gem of an observation: “That's what you said. You gotta live by your words.”

What a putz. What am I missing here?

Indignation and anger doesn't make a person correct or righteous. I guess this is the representation you have to settle for after 5 different lawyers take your case and then give up on it before the hearing. Go back and listen to the interview. If he'd shut up at exactly the 7 minute mark, he wouldn't have made such an ass of himself.

Well love him or hate him, the Republicans are absolutely stuck with Donald Trump. I know of a few who said the Hell with Trump after Jan 6th. But 85% of Republicans now would choose Trump in a primary over ANYBODY.

Let that sink in. Anybody. Reagan, Lincoln, Roosevelt....they could come back from the dead and run against DJT and the Republican party will go for the twice impeached president with the lowest approval rating ever achieved in American history.

Just to hit the point home, Mr. Van der Veen explicitly mentioned PBS as the news source Americans should trust.

I said Trump was a big mistake 5 years ago. I knew it would ruffle some feathers but I felt it was my duty to speak my mind.

Below I’m sharing a video that really resonates with me. It’s another Goddamn Peterson clip that I’d never seen before.

Caught it for the first time this morning. I teasingly curse him because everywhere I turn there’s another clip that’s a couple years old yet completely new to me. And it isn’t as if I wake up each morning doing what so many of us did for four years anticipating what wildy fanciful thing Trump did, said, or tweeted while we were sleeping. I don’t spend my time trying to consume as much of this dude, JP, as I can.

But I click on Youtube to find a good song, or science, or history video and right there is more click bait. Sebastian Bach from Skid Row once related how he joined the band.

Living in Canada, he got an early demo from the proto-band in LA. He’d remembered thinking at the time that he didn’t want to pick and and move that far so he put the tape in and listened hoping it would suck. And he heard the content and said to himself “GD it, it’s great!” with profound annoyance because it meant he had to go see those guys and see what would happen.

Same thing with me. I’m starting to feel stupid referencing the same guy over and over but what tha Hell? He makes more sense than Trump and 40% of this country still believes Trump can walk on water.

There's some great points in this video below about speaking up when things are just mildly stupid because if people don't it only gets more stupid. And there’s more reasonable people than unreasonable in this country but Geez Loiuse the unreasonable ones are so damn noisy and motivated.

None of those apes that entered the Capitol building ACTUALLY represent any Trump supporters on this board. No one here considered going to DC and vandalizing that sacred building. But silence implies complicity and whether Trump supporters like what happened or not, those people are your proxy. They’re the masthead of your ship.

My new job in Greer, already have been drug into a couple political conversations and there are no Never Trumpers in Greer. Asked one pro Trump guy, “You ever own a shirt with the current president on it? Ever wanted a flag that said Reagan or Bush before?”

Of course the answer was no and the guy went quiet after that.

The correct context to view this video in is to consider what it's like to be guys like McConnel, Rubio, Cruz, and Graham. Guys who clearly don't like Trump but let him drag them around like they're dogs. Man, if you're at work and you're asked to do something that makes you feel weak or ashamed...or you have to go whisper to a coworker about crap that don’t smell right there? Somethings wrong.

Hell, I got fired two years ago. For standing up and speaking my mind. This video actually makes me feel a little bit better about blowing my top to the guy who'd made me mad enough the year before to tell him where to stick it and leave skid marks out of the parking lot.

Biggest mistake of my life was letting the same guy talk me into coming back to work for him. 2nd biggest mistake was not having a lateral move in place the day that he ambushed me.

Here's what weak and ashamed looks like...

Great video CatFan. I agree with the dude, America has to come back together in the middle like the Springsteen commercial says. But Trump supporters hate that Superbowl commercial and the democrats think it's a bullshit idea also.

I not only shared that CBS video on my Facebook page, I also shared my reaction to it in some of my political groups online. I keep my ear to the ground in the radical groups on both sides. I’m a member of The Party Of Trump on the right, and one called The White Rose on the far left.

But my main stomping grounds are the centrists groups where a minority of politically minded social media keyboard warriors appreciate both Carter and Reagan at the same time. The Van Der Veen clip you shared generated great mirth from both the left and the right.

Yeah ^^^^ that will never happen. I can show you facebook posts from both sides of the isle of people who are furious at Springsteen for suggesting that America reunites again.

I’ve said it before. I’m not oblivious to the fact that my political views are only barely tolerated on this site. But I just say what’s on my mind and I don’t do it lightly. As the JP clip suggests a lot of the time, keeping your head down and your mouth shut is good advice. And what do I know? I throw my thoughts out there in hopes that someone will pick them up and contend with them and pick them apart so that I can dispense with any parts of my philosophies that are dissonant or ill-formed.

I dunno. Anyone see the letter the one Senator received from his own family after he voted with the other seven?

Pretty sad.

Very powerful. Truth.

The same people who couldn’t tolerate Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the National Anthem have no problem with a white guy trying to beat a Capitol police officer to death with an American flag.
