too many teams in 5A

regions are too small (only 4 region games for 4A and 5A)

guaranteed playoff spots for region finish will produce a weak playoff with many weak teams getting in

yawn

This is interesting.... not the numbers, but the release. All I heard anyone saying for weeks was that the official numbers would be released by the High School League sometime mid-Dec. Then the committee would work on the alignment proposal and it would be released in late January or early February... then BOOM... the whole thing drops Dec 19th.

I find that very odd.

Replying to this thread since it was posted first.

Instant thoughts, glad Abbeville is in a region that is much better for travel, but boy that is a weak football region... will need to schedule some good non-region games. SCHSL punted on private/charter schools, no one in 2A can sniff a trophy in basketball as long as Gray is there. Interesting that Southside Christian bumped down but everyone else stayed in AA. Imagine Bishop England and Oceanside will appeal to go down to AA, maybe.

Interested to see if Region 4 2A is a hybrid upper/lower state region. I like Newberry having Batesburg-Leesville and Saluda in there. We still play BL every year in non region, and Saluda is close, but Columbia and Eau Claire aren't going to bring in a gate. Plus, the shared stadiums down there mean Thursday night games. Gray doesn't even have a stadium, I think they played some games at a recreation field this past season.

Yes, Gray played most of the season at a small rec field. Could maybe sit a couple hundred. When we played them in the playoffs the game was at Newberry College. In the past they had an agreement with Benedict but that fell through this season. I don't think they're getting a facility of their own anytime soon so I'll imagine they'll try to get a deal signed with a stadium somewhere during the offseason.

I was at the game at Newberry College. I hope they get something, or that they have to come to Newberry next year. If you offer a sport, one of the prerequisites should be having a facility to host the sport.

Some fairly weak regions. Some very strong. Region 2 4A is an absolute killer.
