Sittin here thinking about the upcoming realignment, thought it would be fun to mess around and give predictions.

I for one would love to see Greenville back in our region, I always enjoyed those games.

Heck, I'm still trying to figure out how or who they will realign!?! With the rumblings of an open enrollment across the state, may or may not be true, how do they even figure out how many these schools will have?

The current rules use the 135 Day Admissions Numbers from this year to start the process. Then they "adjust" those numbers due to the satellite schools and home school and the "we want to move this school here" numbers and they then use a committee to rubber stamp the process above board using the notes from the under the table process that was already completed.
Then they hold meetings to placate the schools who had the audacity to "appeal" the decisions made by the HSL where they listen to the school's facts and pleas and then DENY the appeal and hope they go away. If they don't go away, there is an executive session where the appeal is heard again and DENIED again (unless the proper paperwork, <-- undocumented cash, is submitted) and then the appeal may be approved and the Realignment is realigned again.....

In the 2022 realignment they switched it up and used the 45ADM numbers, and I think they only considered students in grades 9-11.

They never did publish their final numbers after allocating the students at various charter and magnet schools, that can still play sports at the school they are zoned for.
I'm not sure how that is going to work now, in the era of open enrollment. Example: In previous years, students at Mayo HS for math and science were allocated back to the school they were zoned for, and they could participate in athletics at those schools. Now, with open enrollment, can a student zoned for Darlington, attend Mayo, but choose to participate in sports at Hartsville or West Florence?

New rules use the 45 day count for grades 9-11

For those interested here is the 135 day count from the 2022-23 school year for grades 9-11 for the largest 50 high schools in the state.
While the new rules stipulate that the 45 day count be used I figure this is pretty close to what we'll see for 5A at least
Since most schools open with large enrollments, I figure those schools who by the end of the year are still big enrollment wise have a good chance of being big enrollment schools in the fall.
Those schools in bold would be in the top 36 (since 5A these last two years was the biggest 36). 5A I believe at one point was the biggest 40 but I can't recall if the high school league has ever gone over 40 schools for 5A in it's short history.
