Greatest Comeback in Abbeville Football History

Post by Atown97 »

Down 27 to 3 at the half. Battle back to 27 to 24 with 9secs left. Kick FG to force overtime. Powdersville scores in OT kicks Pat...Abbeville scores and goes for 2pt. Helluva ball game folks 35 to 34 Abbeville with the Big Comeback victory. I don't know what Coach Nick/Coach BB said at Halftime. But it was lights out. The Heart of those kids with that Never Give up attitude. I'm a proud Atown fan tonight. Champions

Congrats to Abbeville.
Really, congrats to both teams. Sounds like a heck of a game. Lots of heart on display. It's hot and humid in SC right now; to battle like that "is awesome"!

It was a great game by both teams. A tale of two halves. Momentum is a crazy thing. Turnovers are huge in football. Once Abbeville got some flow going, starting with a long kickoff return to start the 2nd half. it turned back in to a game pretty quick. The Panthers started making plays, so many to remember, converting 3rd and long, 4th down conversions, defense with big hits, interceptions, so much happened in that 2nd half. I think Powder got away a bit from what they were doing in the first half. I believe we had 3 ints in the 2nd half, 2 in the end zone. Aville had 0 turnovers that I remember. There was never any doubt we would go for two in the OT. Great call. Pville has a very good team, they will get their wins this year. From a fan's view, my hat is off to both teams for a great Friday night battle. Nothing like it.

Good to see comments from someone that actually paid attn to the game on Friday. Pville abandoned the run too soon in the 3rd qtr IMO. Heck if we make the PAT at the end of the 2nd qtr we win the game 28-27. No excuses coming from me, Abbeville did what they do. They grind it out. They never strayed from their gameplan even when they were down. Their fans were ready to fire the whole staff and kick some of the players to the curb. PV was killing them on returns. I’m pretty sure our avg starting spot was around the 40 or more. They def got to clean that up. I hope we can keep playing each other. I loved seeing all the fans ATown brought as well. Heck their cheerleaders were talking trash, kept saying ”this is personal”. I love it! As for PV, I hope everyone keeps kicking us and badmouthing us. The kids hear it, they read it, trust they gonna remember it. We’ve got to start taking the risk and attempting FG’s when we get inside the 20 and even inside the 10. We had 3 opportunities and didn’t take them. That couldve been 9 points. Add the 2 INTs in the endzones that game could’ve easily been something like 42-21. Woulda, coulda, shoulda...gotta play all 4 qtrs til the clock strikes zero. Wish ATown nothing but the best!

3rd game in a row Powdersville hasn't finished. Once momentum swung it was hard to stop. I mean if we we gonna do "ifs" just think about 4 shots on the 1st possession, phantom calls when a helmet isn't tight. Also Atown showed up without starting linebacker, also losing a offensive lineman in the game. You could see that never quit attitude. Both ints shouldn't have been throwed but they wasn't like 1st and goal ints...they was desperation 1 on 1 throws 20 plus yds 4th down plays. Our players came down with the jump balls. Abbeville went from 2.8 yds a rush at the half to over 6yds in the 2nd half. Put Powdersville to sleep with the run that RPO every WR was opened. A very Hot night in August conditioning was what mattered at the end. Best of Luck Patriots y'all definitely made This Young Atown team grow up quick. Hope we can keep y'all on the schedule...Go Panthers
