5A Preseason Region Predictions

I’ll take a shot at this.

Region 1
TL Hanna
Hillcrest
Maudlin
Woodmont
JL Mann
Don’t know much about this region other than TL Hanna

Region 2
Gaffney
Spartanburg
James F. Byrnes
Dorman
Boiling Springs
Top 3 could possibly be interchangeable. Sorry, but I am not sold on Dorman and their new staff.

Region 3
Clover
Spring Valley
Nations Ford
Blythewood
Rock HIll
Fort Mill
This is a toss up region for me. I figure Clover wins it, but I think Spring Valley might surprise people.

Region 4
Dutch Fork
Lexington
White Knoll
River Bluff
Chapin
Everybody knows who is top in this region. Lexington is going to be very dangerous. White Knoll is going to surprise teams this year. River Bluff and Chapin lost a lot, but Chapin lost more.

Region 5
Carolina Forest
Sumter
Conway
St.James
Socastee
This is all Carolina Forest and Sumter. They could definitely switch spots.

Region 6
Goose Creek
Berkeley
Stratford
Cane Bay
Wando
I hate to go against Slickers Stags, but Goose Creek is my pick. My big question is why is Wando so bad? They should be so much better.

Region 7
Fort Dorchester
Ashley Ridge
Summerville
West Ashley
RB Stall
Fort D is going to be pretty good. Ashley Ridge and Summerville could definitely switch spots.

With some games we have seen so far, some tweaks to the projections may be in order. Comments with this format are my revised projections.

Region 1
TL Hanna
Hillcrest
Mauldin
Woodmont
JL Mann
Hillcrest and Mauldin could easily have been at the top of my list as well.
I think as we move to Region Games, I'd have to move Hillcrest to the top of Region I and I'd move J L Mann to the 4 slot, and maybe all the way up to the 3 slot.

Region 2
Gaffney
James F Byrnes
Spartanburg
Dorman
Boiling Springs
Yeah, the Blue and Gray tinted glasses just might have influenced the pick at #2. I have heard all the "we lost everyone" talk from the Indians, but I'm not buying that stuff. The Vikings are probably the safest pick if you were placing a $$$$ wager on your pick, but I've been around high school football long enough to know, strange things seem to happen come Region time. I have totally lost confidence in the Rebels offensive play calling and passing game consistency [very much necessary to win in Region II, I mean we are not in Region 5 or 6! JUST KIDDING!!] The Vikings are very much the safest pick and those Indians seem to get better as the season progresses and Dorman just keeps blowing people away with that MONSTER OFFENSIVE LINE... so I would have to say, Spartanburg, Gaffney and Dorman all go 1-1 against each other and the 1, 2 and 3 slots will go to a tiebreaker while the Rebels manage to beat Boiling Springs for the 4th slot.

For me, this one was pick one of the top four on the list above to put at the top. I do know that Clover is bringing back a lot of players and NF's showed some potential last year. Spring Valley seemed to be Senior ladened last year. Clover, Spring Valley and Blythewood seem to be the best choice for the top slot in Region III. I think the rest of the Region is possibly 0-3 against those three and 1-1 against each other.

Dutch Fork
River Bluff
Lexington
Chapin
White Knoll
You could make an ALL STAR team with the other four in this region and I'm still picking Dutch Fork. Nothing has changed here for me. DF is at least double digit favorite the rest of the regular season and for at least the first two rounds of the playoffs.


Region 5
Sumter
Carolina Forest
Conway
Socastee
St James
Sumter seems the most likely pick from this one and Carolina Forest just keeps getting closer but never close enough. I see no need to make any changes here.


Region 6
Goose Creek
Stratford
Cane Bay
Berkeley
Wando
Gators seem to be back on track. I think I could see Cane Bay winning this Region. They host Stratford and there is the game AT Goose Creek but maybe....


Region 7
Fort Dorchester
Summerville
Ashley Ridge
West Ashley
RB Stall
I almost put Ashley Ridge in second in the Region, but chickened out at the last minute. The only sure thing is that Stall seems destined for 0-4. The rest of the teams seem like they could finish with Fort D 4-0 and AR, WA and Summerville all at 2-0.

Byrnes and Boiling Springs game next week will be a first round playoff game! The winner is in and loser season is over at months end!
